Workflow Maintainer & Support Engineer Role

Title: Workflow Maintainer & Support Engineer

Company: Flomenco

Location: Remote

Type: Part-time Contractor (Hourly, with potential to grow into regular part-time or full-time)

The Role

We are seeking a Workflow Automation & Support Engineer to help design, build, and maintain highly complex workflows. You’ll work directly on workflows that sit at the heart of customer operations, connecting APIs, automating processes, and supporting integrations that power critical business outcomes.

This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role with an opportunity to grow into a larger engineering or support position as Flomenco scales. You’ll collaborate with our engineering and customer success teams to ensure workflows are reliable, well-documented, and optimized for performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Workflow Development: Design, build, and maintain complex workflows, often involving 25+ interconnected nodes, conditional logic, error handling, and custom-built nodes.

  • Integration Management: Connect APIs, data sources, and third-party services into workflows, ensuring accurate data flow and error recovery mechanisms.

  • Workflow Reliability: Monitor and debug workflows, ensuring uptime and consistency across customer-critical automations.

  • Documentation: Create clear technical documentation in Notion for workflows, architecture, and custom logic.

  • Customer-Facing Support: Work with customer teams to understand workflow requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide updates on progress (customer-facing experience is a plus but not required).

  • Collaboration: Partner with Flomenco’s engineers and product team to ensure workflows align with broader product and AI-driven automation strategies.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, optimize performance, and proactively suggest improvements.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong experience creating and maintaining workflows in tools like n8n, Zapier, and Make.

  • Comfort working with APIs, JSON payloads, and common integration patterns.

  • Curiosity and problem-solving mindset—you dig into error logs, test payloads, and figure things out when documentation is thin.

  • Strong written communication skills with an ability to document workflows clearly.

  • Self-starter who can work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup.

  • Ability to collaborate across a distributed, primarily US-based team.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience building or extending custom nodes in n8n using JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS (Lambda, SQS, ECS).

  • Customer support experience (especially in technical or integration-heavy environments).

  • Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools (e.g., DataDog, PostHog) for workflow observability.

Flomenco Software Developer Engineer Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable and efficient software solutions with a focus on backend TypeScript / Node.js development.

  • AI/ML services leverage Python in addition to the core Typescript / Node.js services

  • Contribute to front-end development using React, ensuring a seamless user experience.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement automation and DevOps best practices (no hands-on DevOps experience expected).

  • Instrument code for logging and monitoring, optimizing performance, and reliability.

  • Contributing to automated test strategy and writing unit tests, accelerating development velocity.

  • Document technical processes and solutions using Notion and track project progress in Linear.

  • Participate actively in code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

  • Lean into Flomenco’s “AI first” development approach leveraging tools like Cursor, Claude, and CodeRabbit

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in full-stack development, with expertise in back-end TypeScript / Node.js and Python and front-end expertise in React

  • Extreme curiosity – When faced with the unknown, you don’t stop at “I don’t know.” You dive in, research, learn the skill, and figure it out. You’re a continuous learner who thrives on solving problems others shy away from.

  • Proactive execution – You take initiative, work independently, and get things done.

  • Clear communicator – You produce strong documentation and share knowledge effectively.

  • Remote collaboration – You thrive in a distributed team, working seamlessly across time zones with a primarily US-based team.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with AWS Lambda and AWS ECS Fargate.

  • Familiarity with GitLab CI and GitLab Flow in collaborative development environments.

  • Proficiency in instrumenting code for logging and monitoring with DataDog and PostHog.
